Quiz Time: The Foundations
Six quick questions on how Kubernetes works.
Let's check what you have learned. In this quiz, there are six questions about the core of Kubernetes. For each one, I will read the question, and four answers. Then you will have a few seconds to think, before I give the answer. Ready? Let's go.

- Six quick questions
- Pause, think, then check
- No pressure, just practice
Pods
Question 1. What is the smallest deployable unit in Kubernetes? A, A container. B, A pod. C, A node. D, A namespace. Pause the video, and think. The answer is B. A pod wraps one or more containers, and is what Kubernetes schedules.
Self-healing
Question 2. A pod owned by a deployment is deleted. What happens? A, Nothing, it is gone. B, The replica set creates a replacement. C, The node restarts. D, The cluster shuts down. Pause the video, and think. The answer is B. The replica set notices the count is too low, and creates a new pod.
Control plane
Question 3. Which component stores the state of the cluster? A, The scheduler. B, The kubelet. C, etcd. D, kube-proxy. Pause the video, and think. The answer is C. Et see dee is the cluster memory, and nothing is real until it is written there.
Labels
Question 4. How does a service find its pods? A, By pod name. B, By label selector. C, By node name. D, By image tag. Pause the video, and think. The answer is B. The service selector matches pod labels, and the matching pods become endpoints.
Updates
Question 5. Which command undoes a bad rollout? A, kubectl rollback now. B, kubectl rollout undo. C, kubectl delete rollout. D, kubectl scale back. Pause the video, and think. The answer is B. Rollout undo returns the deployment to its previous revision.
Service types
Question 6. Which service type is reachable only from inside the cluster? A, ClusterIP. B, NodePort. C, LoadBalancer. D, Ingress. Pause the video, and think. The answer is A. Cluster I P is the default, and gives a stable internal address only.
Summary
Well done. You have answered six questions on the foundations, pods, self healing, the control plane, labels, updates, and services. If any felt hard, rewatch that lesson. Next, six more questions, on running apps in production.
Key takeaways- Pods, self-healing, etcd
